Ten Facts to Know about Kristin's case...
- Legal council for the Flores family made the following Plea Offer: Reduce charges against our client down to a misdemeanor and we will lead you to Kristin's body.
- At the November 11th, 1997 deposition, during a break, Ruben Flores (Paul's father) followed Mrs. Smart into a separate room and proceeded to quietly laugh in her face. He then turned around and walked out of the room.
- At the same deposition, Flores pled the 5th 'twenty-seven' times. Youtube video.
- Quoting the 2000 Search Warrant: 'Based on the information in this affidavit, I believe that Kristin Smart is deceased and that her death and/or the disposal of her remains are a result of a criminal act. Therefore, I request to search 529 East Branch Street for Kristin Smart’s remains, personal effects and other items that constitute evidence pertaining to this case and previously mentioned in this affidavit."
- Another quote from the same Warrant: 'Reasonable cause exists to believe that Kristin Smart's body is buried in the back yard of 529 East Branch Street.'
- SLO Sheriff's Department chose not to dig up the yard when they searched the property for the Search Warrant. FBI Agent Jack Schafer called that choice 'a lost opportunity'.
- At one of the Thursday Night Farmer's Market in downtown San Luis Obispo, a co-worker of Ruben Flores told Dennis Mahon that Ruben Flores approached him in the warehouse where they worked and said to him that 'Kristin was a bitch and she deserved to die'.
- Four separate cadaver dogs alerted to the scent of a deceased human being in Paul Flores' dorm room, 128 Santa Lucia, on the campus of CalPoly.
- Tim Davis, another CalPoly student who was at the party and walked Kristin home that night has never spoken with the Smart family and refused to show up at the 1997 deposition. He is now a Morgan-Stanley employee in the San Fran Bay Area.
- Taken from the Search Warrant: an earring found on the Flores property with what appeared to be dried bloodstains on it was turned over to the SLO Sheriff's Department. Someone at the Sheriff's Department either 'lost or tossed' the earring. It disappeared and has never been found.
